Next Program scheduled September 16 – 18, 2026 Hosted by Virginia Tech
Who is this program designed for?
This certification program is designed for professionals with demonstrated experience working with consumer products and are responsible for product safety, compliance, quality, product design, supply-chain oversight, or post-market risk management.
It is intended for individuals seeking to deepen their expertise across the core areas of product-safety practice and earn the Certified Product Safety Professional™ designation to demonstrate advanced competency and leadership in the field.
The course content is built around five pillars of knowledge that constitute the product safety professional’s broad understanding of principles and processes that govern best product safety practices including: (1) organizational culture and ethics, (2) risk assessment and management, (3) regulatory compliance, (4) incident management and forensics, and (5) product recalls and returns.
Candidates must demonstrate their knowledge and understanding through three different assessment activities including 1) a multiple-choice examination, 2) a personal essay on the candidate’s career development, and 3) design and delivery of a case study and defending their case study foundation before a panel of product safety experts and university educators.
This year’s program will once again be offered in cooperation with our university partner Virginia Tech. The program runs over a two-month period including on-site opening and closing workshops at Virginia Tech's in Arlington, VA, and an online webinar series that can be attended remotely.
